Carving,

Tending your lover,

Every stroke a movement of grace.

Feel how the grain accepts you:

Depth,

Rhythm,

Velocity,

Energy present;

Accord with the fibered wave,

Patiently,

Fluidly flow.

You don't need to know,

You just do.

You try to make it real,

Honor the feel,

Give life to an inspired movement,

No matter held how so still.

The spirit intertwines with visceral fabric,

Plant or animal.

Cleave to.

Time, weathering & rot is likely only to improve this artwork...

These sculptures are an attempt to reassert an ancient tradition of wood carving. Their appearance evolves in cooperation with the wood. No attempt is made to strictly impose a preconceived form upon the wood. The wood's natural shape inspires the possibility of an image and then the wood's grain directs how it wishes to be hewn.

These images reflect the interaction of Man & Nature. They are channeled through a variety of folk traditions: Celtic, Native American & Chinese. Their common inspiration is an exploration of mythologies that hold Nature in reverence & inform Man how he may live in balance with it. These carvings are rendered out of a variety of hard, weather-resistant woods. They are intended to be placed outside in rustic settings. In garden or grove they will evoke a sense of awe & wonder, and hopefully, bring a little magic to their environment. Each scuplture is lovingly hand-carved by the artist. Though there are a variety of "kindreds", as represented by the thumbnailed images above, each carving is unique as you or I.

These wooden folk need caring homes. They're easy to have around. A little linseed oil once in a great while and they are practically disease-free-- virtually immortal. They rarely cut you off in conversation and are generally supportive when treated with a modicum of respect.
